The 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 AF-P VR FX version much less so (though the AF-P bit was a surprise to many). That's because the older 70-300mm FX lens was showing its age on most of the newer DSLRs, particularly those with high pixel density (e.g. 20/24mp DX, 36/45mp FX). Most of the Nikon community was expecting Nikon to only update the full frame (FX While the Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 has no additional controls, it does feature a USB-C port for using Tamron's Lens Utility software, all in-camera lens corrections are supported, and you get an HA047 bayonet-type lens hood with the lens. Other than the wider mount area, the Z-mount version of the lens looks pretty much the same as the Sony FE
Given its price, the Nikkor 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR lens is very sharp. At the 24mm focal length, the lens is able to resolve to around 30 on our test chart when paired with the 24-million-pixel Nikon D3X. This is impressive, and when shooting at 24mm and f/8 it is almost a match for the more expensive Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 optic.
At $999, the Tokina 24-70mm f/2.8 isn’t cheap, but could represent great value compared to own-brand options, such as the $1797 Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8G ED or the $2397 Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8E ED.
The resolution test of the Nikkor-AF-S 24–70 mm f/2.8E ED VR was based on RAW files from the Nikon D3x camera. In its case the decency level we place around 30-32 lpmm and top-of-the-range fixed focal length lenses are able to go as high as 47-49 lpmm.

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR is a fast standard zoom lens with built-in vibration reduction. Lastly at 70mm, the lens once again demonstrates superb center sharpness at f/4 and smaller apertures in the center of the frame, and although the corners get a little bit weaker compared to other focal lengths, they are still significantly better than those of the 24-70mm f/2.8E VR.
